Pacheca Reserva Red 75cl
VITICULTURAL YEAR
The 2021 wine year was characterized by an atypical climate, a hot and rainy winter, a cold and extremely rainy spring and a very hot and dry summer that could affect the progress of maturation. Changing climatic conditions have contributed to earlier flowering, but in the meantime, there has been a significant delay in spring, particularly with the "transition period" which happens only about two weeks later. There was a prolonged absence of precipitation in the summer period with the occurrence of very high temperatures that may have affected the evolution of maturation. A large part of the Quinta da Pacheca vineyards could be harvested until the first week of October with favorable weather conditions allowing detention periods to obtain the best musts, which indicates a good qualitative potential of the wines.
VINEYARDS
This wine is obtained from grapes of the Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional varieties from vineyards planted at Quinta da Pacheca that are around 40 years old.
VINIFICATION METHOD
After careful selection for their best condition, the grapes were harvested into 25 kg chests and sent to the winemaking center where they were completely de-stemmed. Fermentation took place for 9 days in traditional 14-ton granite stone tanks with treading and smooth pumping for blanket leaching and extraction of phenolic and aromatic compounds. At the end of alcoholic fermentation, the wine was transferred to stainless steel vats where malolactic fermentation took place. Subsequently, it was partially aged in 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels for 12 months.
