The history of this Port Wine dates back to the 1867 harvest at Quinta das Carvalhas, one of the most prominent properties in the Alto Douro that stands out in the Douro landscape for its beauty and the spectacularity of its vineyards.
It is truly a hidden living memory of the 19th century preserved over time with meticulous care and almost religious devotion, initially in the cellars of the renowned firm Miguel Souza Guedes, and later, in the middle of the century. XX, by incorporation of this company, left in the care of successive generations of cellar masters at Real Companhia Velha.
This Port Wine continued its long and patient aging in the sumptuous cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, in barrels made of the finest oak wood, until it reached perfection, highlighting a sumptuous aromatic and an unforgettable tasting dimension.
After 149 years of aging and in the year of celebrations of the 260th anniversary of the founding of this Companhia Pombalina, the destiny of this wine thus intersects with the history of the most emblematic Port Wine company – A Real Companhia Velha – whose legacy is intertwined with the the history of Port Wine itself.
